Funny Story for the Techies
Sep 2nd, 2006 by Mr. Higgins
I was using a floor outlet for a power cord that hooks to my laptop computer. I noticed that one student accidentally kicked the fragile plug, so I decided to get a power bar to plug in so that my fragile plug doesn’t get ruined because either a student or myself accidentally step on it anymore. I do this during my lunch period. About 30 minutes later, during a study hall in my room you hear the sound of about twelve computers shutting down including the switch that hosts all of the network cords. It turns out that many of the computers in my room have no power to them and those that do cannot connect to network through the switch which is now off.
After school I go and talk to the technology coordinator to see what they can do about my power problems. She says to me, the only thing we can think of is that when you plugged in the powerbar you knocked/overloaded the circuit. Well guess what, I attempted to take my own computer lab down by plugging in a powerbar for my own use. LOL. The comptuers in my room were that close to overloading the circuit. After resetting the fuse, my lab is now up and running. It is just funny to think about such a simple thing that is MY FAULT creates a power problem that affects computers in the room.
