Conserve Time during Programming Class
Oct 21st, 2006 by Mr. Higgins
I wanted to experiment with having the students submit files online through my website in order to cut out the time it takes to collect and print out programs. I can now view the file in the browser, copy it off the server, or actually comment back to the student on the forum all using my school Drupal website. I gave my students rights to create a topic and add an attachment to their posts; however, they can not delete anything but their own post. Here is a screenshot of what my student in AP Computer see when they click on our “Student Forum”…
The student only has to click on the topics and post their files.
Comments that the students have made about submitting online…
1. They like not having to print out programs before class
2. Some choose to submit right before bed, others do it in the morning before school
3. They like the fact that I give them an opportunity for feedback and post overall comments about each problem
Comments from my end (as the teacher)
1. I absolutely love having the files and the ability to grade and check student progress from anywhere
2. The school email server or their own flash drive is not an excuse that can be used any longer…only if my website crashes
3. At this point I’m still testing some of the things I can do with online submission for my AP Computer class, in the future I hope to add some blogging to this process as we approach closer to the elusive AP Exam in May.
